Wendy Banks is a proud 6th generation farmer from Lyndhurst, Ontario. She has always held a strong interest in agriculture and early in her career she pursued studies in Horticulture at Algonquin College while running a successful greenhouse operation. However, it wasn’t until about 10 years ago that she discovered her true passion in educating others on the natural health benefits of eating local farm fresh products and helping local producers reach new markets by developing Wendy’s Mobile Market, a unique door to door delivery service serving both commercial businesses and residential homes utilizing a user friendly website www.wendysmobilemarket.com. Wendy has grown her business to now include, Wendy’s Country Market, handling products from over 70 local producers and a fully inspected kitchen with a full time cook in order to produce her own line of Frozen Entrees highlighting local food.
Wendy takes the local food movement and food traceability seriously and in 2008 was chosen as Leeds and Grenville County winner of the Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence. In an ongoing effort to further connect farm to fork Wendy hosts monthly events on the farm from April to October where local Farmers, Chefs, Artisans and Musicians display and sell a variety of local products. Wendy makes it a priority to know where and how the products she carries are produced and is proud to say that a number of local public schools have taken the initiative to include healthy lunches for their hot lunch program by purchasing fresh made meals from Wendy and her staff. Wendy looks forward to continuing to connect farm to fork for future generations to come.
